Pure breed chickens are the traditional breeds. Lovely birds with character, making perfect typical farm yard chickens. Compared to their hybrid cousins they have more personality and do have a longer life span. Typically, pure breeds have more personality, go broody more than hybrids and have a larger choice of size and plumage. Pure breed hens lay most eggs during the long summer days - unlike their hybrid cousins who are bred purely for egg laying. Expect 100 - 250 eggs per year, for 4-7 years depending on your chosen breed and the birds age.
Sussex chickens are upright, alert, and pretty docile, they are Hardy, very friendly, good for beginners. The Sussex chicken is an alert, calm breed that can adapt to any surroundings and be quite tame and friendly. They are comfortable in both free range or confined spaces and in the presence of humans, although they will mate and breed better in larger spaces. The breed frequently goes broody in the warmer months. They are good foragers and are generally vigorous and hardy as a garden fowl.
Rhode Islands are classed as a heavy breed, but are active. They enjoy foraging on grass. They are bright and alert but at the same time quiet. They make great pets and are relatively hardy. They will produce a large amount of brown eggs a year.

They lay a light brown egg.
The Rhode Island will get along fine with most other breeds of hens, it's a highly independent bird so you don't need to spend too much time trying to train a Rhody!
The chicks are quick to feather up and mature quickly. The hens lay well and are placid and friendly and are therefore easy to tame. They thrive in a run or wandering free and as they are not good fliers, they do not need particularly high fencing. They are not aggressive towards each other and are tolerant creatures.
The Sussex is a British breed of dual-purpose chicken, reared both for its meat and for its eggs.The Sussex chicken is an alert but docile breed that can adapt to any surrounding easily. They are good foragers. Whilst they are quite happy to be free range, they will also be fine if kept in a confined space.
They have such a friendly nature and are average layers. They're also cold-hardy, meaning they can handle harsher winters and still produce eggs. The Black Copper Maran chicken are generally friendly and docile birds, making them a great choice for backyard flocks. They're also very curious and will follow you around the yard, making chores more enjoyable!
Black Copper Marans are also excellent foragers. They do great in free-range environments where they can roam and scratch for food. But as they're naturally gentle and not easily stressed, they tolerate confinement well.

Hens are good layers. They are generally docile and quiet in nature and pretty active. They are good foragers and do well in free ranging system.
They are an autosexing breed, so when you order females, you know you’re getting females! They are one of the very few breeds that lays beautiful light blue or light green eggs. They are beyond adorable with their little feather crests that grow up from behind their combs.
Araucana chickens are energetic yet friendly. They are known to be very friendly birds, don't seem to mind being picked up and will quite gladly sit on your lap or perch on your shoulder for a while. Good layers, expect to get 300 eggs a year or more!
The Araucana is famous for laying blue eggs.
The Gold Legbar is very similar to the Cream Legbar and is a true autosexing breed which means that you can tell the sex of the chicks by the colour of the feathers. It is an old pure breed which originated in the 1930s as a cross between Brown Leghorns and Barred Rock. Producing beautiful Olive Green eggs.
They are friendly, easily handled birds which love to free range and forage for food but can also be kept in runs quite happily. Welsummer chickens are intelligent, low-maintenance birds that produce beautiful, deep brown, terracotta-colored eggs.
Barnevelders have a single comb and red ear lobe. The breed has an upright stance, a broad breast and short wings carried high, making them poor flyers. The skin color is yellow. Personality: The Barnevelder is a docile, friendly breed, excellent for children to raise.
